SIRIS—Configurations
SIRIS configurations include permanent, fixed base site; a portable system for use at temporary
inspection sites; a vehicle-mounted system for use on mobile enforcement vehicles; and a hand-held
device for spot checking vehicles during inspections.
Fixed or Portable System Description
In both the fixed and portable systems, SIRIS consists of several components including the
following.
-
A base unit that contains a thermal infrared camera, a visible camera, a set of sensors for
ambient temperature, humidity, and an industrial computer running the SIRIS control and
analytical software.
-
A remote camera unit containing a second thermal infrared camera with a connection to the
base unit
-
A vehicle identification system for making a positive identification of each vehicle that
passes the system
-
A triggering mechanism to initiate an inspection. SIRIS identifies when a vehicle enters the
system and begins to collect and process the data.
-
A workstation that can be used to monitor vehicles as they pass through the system and to
make adjustments to the system. This workstation consists of a monitor, keyboard, and mouse
connected to the control computer system in the base unit.
-
An alert system. SIRIS alerts when it detects a vehicle with thermal anomalies, sounding an
audible alarm to attract attention. An operator can
-
System Control Software to manage the operation of the system. The nature of this control
software will vary based on the system configuration. The system software allows the user to
review past inspections, to modify system parameters, and to conduct needed maintenance
activities.
