Maintenance of brake shoes and brake pads has been a time-consuming effort requiring large numbers of hours for rail workers to manually measure each shoe or pad. IEM has advanced the state of the art for this process by developing advanced machine vision systems capable of locating the brakes on moving rail cars, imaging them with high speed cameras, assessing the condition of the show or pad, and then providing a direct notification to maintenance offices so that someone can be dispatched to replace shoes or pads when needed.
