The Ultrasonic Axle Crack Detection System uses advanced technology to interrogate the solid axle rod of a wheelset in a workshop environment. As train speeds and wheel loads increase, the stresses exerted on the wheel seats, outboard bearing seats and disk break seats increase. Severe stress can lead to cracks and defects along the length of the axle.
IEM's Ultrasonic Axle Crack Detection System upgrades the system to include the testing of a solid axle. The gantry is installed above the Ultrasonic Wheel Crack Detection System to house a minimum of two top-down ultrasonic transducers for inspection of the axle. After the wheelset is lowered into the basin and the drive rollers begin to rotation, the 360° inspection of both the wheel and axle begins simultaneously. Two ultrasonic transducers allows for the inspection of the wheel seats on the axle. The system can be customized to include the inspection of the bearing seats and disk brake seats with additional transducers.
