Using the most advanced Non-Destructive Testing technology, IEM's Ultrasonic Wheel Crack Detection System inspects the condition of the wheel thoroughly to maintain safe and effective operation of the wheel sets.  As train speeds and wheel loads increase, the stresses exerted on the wheel and wheelsets during operation also increases.  Severe stress can lead to cracks and defects within the wheel tread, wheel rim and wheel flange.  Traditional inspection methods make it difficult for these defects to be detected.

IEM's Ultrasonic Wheel Crack Detection System automatically and accurately detects flaws using multiple sensors "steered" and "focused" at the wheel.  During operation, the wheel is rotated 360° for inspection of the entire circumference.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Workshop Application. Designed to inspect the wheelsets for defects within a workshop environment.
  •

  • Thorough Inspection of the Wheel. Uses state-of-the-art technology to inspect the wheel tread, wheel rim and wheel flange for defects.
  •

  • Highly Efficient & Economical. The system has a cycle time of ten minutes, allowing more wheelsets to be inspected in a shorter period of time.
  •

  • Rotation of the Wheelsets. Wheelsets are automatically rotated during inspection using drive rollers for inspection of the full wheel circumference.
  •

  • User-Friendly System. Allows for easy recording, analyzing and storing of the inspection results by the user.
