The Truck Performance Detector consists of a series of strain gauge sensors that are placed along the track to measure lateral and vertical forces during the negotiation of a curved portion of the track. The TPD system identifies suspension systems that do not perform optimally. The system is integrated with an identification system for the vehicles in order to associate the data with the appropriate railcar. Train detection, data capture, data processing and transmission are fully automated. The wheel force measurements are automatically monitored and transmitted to the appropriate personnel for alert.
Upon further follow-up inspection or additional measurements (Not provided with the basic system) the following defects may be detected:
- Worn Friction Wedges
- Broken Suspension Springs
- Twisted Car Bodies
- Mismatched Side Frames
- Hollow/Worn Wheels
- Tight Side Bearings
