NYSERDA Awards Development Contract for Non-Contact Electronic Wheel Gauge,
TROY, NY - IEM Corporation, a worldwide leader in the development and production of innovative sensor-based systems for the intelligent transportation industry, is honored to have been awarded a contract by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for advanced development of non-contact electronic wheel gauge. Previously, NYSERDA had supported the evolution of IEM hand-held measurement technology and now continues with the next generation of development.
Based on an earlier program funded by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) IDEAS Program, the non-contact gauge implements a laser-based technology similar to that used in IEM’s advanced in-ground WISE™ wheel inspection system. This new gauge will significantly reduce the time required to measure rail wheels and will meet or exceed accuracy requirements. IEM is working in conjunction with New York City Transit (NYCT) to develop this new gauge, with prototype testing and validation to be conducted at NYCT maintenance sites.
Established in 1987, IEM has more than 25 years of transportation safety and security experience. Initially founded to manufacture and market its original electronic wheel gauge for the railway industry, IEM has expanded its core business to include a range of hand-held and in-track devices for railroad inspection, as well as optical and acoustic monitoring solutions for government and industrial partners around the globe.
